Chocolate Puff Pastry Delights:
Raspberry Cocoa Roll & Choco Squares đ«đ
A random fridge find turned into one of my favorite little sweet things. Totally unplanned, totally worth it.
đ„ Hereâs how it all happened.
So, I had this awkward piece of puff pastry left over. Not enough to do much with, not small enough to ignore.
The kind of thing you wrap up and promise yourself youâll use âtomorrow.â Yeah... we all know that usually means ânever.â
But this time, I actually did something with it.
There were a few lonely raspberries still hanging out in the fridge. Some cocoa powder in the cupboard. And a chocolate bar that I definitely opened with zero self-control the night before. That was all the convincing I needed.
â€ïž Why I ended up loving this so much
- It felt like zero effort (because it kinda was).
- Chocolate + berries + flaky pastry = instant joy.
- No recipe stress, no measuring cups flying everywhere.
- Ready in minutes, gone even faster.
- Honestly? It made my afternoon a lot better.
đ What I grabbed (and what you can too)
For the cocoa roll:
âą ÂŸ of a puff pastry sheet
âą Sweetened cocoa powder (Nesquik-ish stuff is great)
âą A handful of fresh raspberries
âą Some pastry cream (I had a bit left, but you do you)
âą One egg (for brushing)
âą A few strawberry slices
âą A pinch of dark chocolate, grated, because why not
For the squares:
âą The rest of the pastry (around ÂŒ sheet)
âą Six tiny chunks of milk chocolate (or whateverâs around)
đ Step-by-Step Instructions
I rolled out the bigger piece of pastryânot too thin, not too thick.
Sprinkled cocoa on one side like I meant business.
Tossed on the raspberriesâno pattern, just vibes.
Folded it over like a book, sealed the edges with a fork, and brushed the top with egg like a proper grown-up.
đ« Chocolate square magic
Then I took the last bit of pastry, flattened it a little.
Placed the chocolate pieces on one half, spaced out like I was making a chocolate map.
Folded it over, pressed gently around each one so they wouldnât escape, then sliced it into six squares.
Brushed the tops with egg, and honestly, they already looked cute.
đ„ Bake time (aka the hardest partâwaiting)
Preheated the oven to 180°C / 350°F.
Popped everything onto a baking tray lined with paper.
Baked for about 15 minutes. They puffed up, turned golden, and filled the kitchen with that warm, buttery smell that makes you forget your to-do list.
âš A little extra on top (because I couldnât help myself)
Once the roll cooled down a bit, I piped on some pastry cream (or⊠blobbed it on, if weâre being honest), added a few strawberry slices, and shaved some dark chocolate on top like I was on a cooking show.
Did it need all that? Nah.
Did it make me smile while eating it? 100%.
â Hot cocoa + chocolate pillows = yes.
I made a cup of cocoa.
Whipped cream on top.
Grabbed a chocolate square.
Dipped it in.
Paused for dramatic effect.
And yep... that was a moment.
đĄ Quick ideas if you want to mix things up
- No raspberries? Use cherries, blueberries, or whatever fruitâs almost too soft.
- No pastry cream? Use whipped cream, mascarpone, or nothing at all.
- No milk chocolate? Use dark. Or white. Or peanut butter cups. You get the idea.
đ€ Serving idea
If youâre sharing (no pressure), slice the cocoa roll into thick pieces and lay them out with some fresh fruit on the side.
The chocolate squares are best when people can just pick them up with their handsâmaybe dip them into a mug of cocoa.
Itâs simple, cozy, and doesnât need anything fancy.
âCuriousâwhatâs more your style?
- Raspberry and cocoa roll with that fruity twist
- Soft, melty chocolate-filled pastry bites
- A bit of both, especially with something warm to sip on
- Honestly... Iâll take anything wrapped in puff pastry
đ Final thought
This wasnât planned.
It wasnât fancy.
And it wasnât supposed to turn out this good.
But somehow it didâand thatâs the best kind of kitchen win.
So if youâve got a leftover sheet of puff pastry and a sweet tooth knocking at your door, this is your sign.
Make it. Eat it warm. Donât even wait for it to cool all the way.
And hey, if no oneâs home... more for you. đ
